It should be at least 44 or 48 inches long. And its aluminum, which may poison your water should you use it in cooking. I am changing to a 48" magnesium rod. The factory rod is perfectly designed to last about 3 years, so the tank should blow out around 6.1 years.Since the new rod is only 13$ its still a good buy. Made in Mexico, unfortunately and sloppy work - the anode covered with pipe dope its entire length, and lots of metallic particles - no clean up of fitting before installation.I paid $239 for mine. Now ... Dual 4500 watt heating elements Factory installed Temperature and Pressure, T&P relief valve . »
